On October 7 I'll be one step closer to that if-y part of life that
people call the golden years. I hear there's a lot of napping and
watching Wheel of Fortune involved. While that's all well and good, I
figured a hefty amount of partying is necessary while my hips are still
strong enough to tolerate some dancing without shattering into tiny
bits. Thus-ly, 4 super rad bands will be playing at the Swamp (417 W.
Monroe) to celebrate youth, loud music, beer, dancing, bad ass-ery, and
all type
s of awesome things like that.
COUNTY GRAVES = local badass americana

THESE MAGNIFICENT TAPEWORMS = local badass surf
http://www.facebook.com/thesemagnificenttapeworms
HARE
KRISHNA STOMPBOX = kind of local (me plus Joe from the Tapeworms doing
tunes from my Wausau, WI band) badass amalgamation of loud musics
harekrishnastompbox.bandcamp.com/
DAN SENTIGHTY = badass technical prog thrash (or somethin' like that)
No cover! (donations accepted though if you want the Swamp to start bringing in well known names)
Free beer!
Some free food probably!

THE SWAMP: OPEN FOR SEASON
Hey kids. The Swamp is back and business and has some rad events coming your way next week. On Thursday, August 23 some friends from Wausau, WI are swinging by to pummel ya'll with awesomeness.
Poney has been cranking out genre bending metal for well over 6 years now and has just released an awesome new single on red cassettes called Octavius/Melt Trip.
Morality Crisis blew the Wausau scene away for a few years prior to 2006 and has recently reformed, recorded an EP (North), and has started up a label (Minnesconsin). Our pals High Horse will be rounding out the show with their stoner rock-ish riffs.
9pm show time.
$5 suggested donation.
If that weren't enough, the Swamp will be hosting a basement dance party Friday, August 24 DJ'd by Mr. Rory Sazama. He'll be playing all kids of kick ass stuff from his glorious funk/soul/hip-hop collection.
There'll be some beer available and s'more supplies (while they last) so come party and get your groove on.
Music starts around 10.
Dress attire is suggested black and white themed.
No cover but I'm sure Rory could use some extra cash so bring something to donate if you want.
For some reason the links aren't looking so check out the bands here.

holy hell! I'm in love!
"noised out sax, bass and guitar play nice with sick bass synth, keyboards and tape delay. Even their drums are laced with contact mics and effects trigge...rs. But what is so captivating about this band is how all of these already far out sounds manage to fit together so perfectly, in a way that leaves you on the brink of insanity while enjoying pure rock and roll fury."

December is finally here! Don't let the weather get you down, we have loads of incredible shows lined up to ensure you don't have to spend your Friday night alone in your room wearing all the sweaters you own listening to Smog. Kicking things off, HUME from Washington, DC will be playing at Skihouse this Friday! Some of the most interesting music I've heard in awhile, so stoked for this show - they've been on the road for awhile already, heading all around the country for an 80 day tour, whoa!! You don't want to miss this!!!
"Hume kicked off five years ago, the constantly metamorphosing product of guitarist/bassist/composer Britton Powell’s high school philosophy class daydreams and basement-recording sessions.
... In these early days, Hume was hard to pin down. One minute it was a solo-project, the next it was a group of free-form improvisers, then a string quartet, and finally a full-fledged band performing expansive prog-rock in a giant octopus-shaped sculpture. Whatever was going on, it was always interesting. The last touring line-up of the group featured two drummers, two basses, and three saxophones performing a single 30-minute composition that Powell wrote during a six-month trip to India.
But somewhere during the last two years, Powell decided that the constant line-up changes were not getting him where he wanted to go.
Inspired in equal parts by James Brown’s touring band and the prog-rock titans of yesteryear, Powell decided that it was time to buckle-down and get tight. He rallied the heads together--recruiting drummer and long time collaborator Wilson Kemp (Macaw), bassist/multi-instrumentalist Joey Doubek (Mass Movement of the Moth) and guitarist, Peter Tran . Months of rehearsals followed. The group dug in deep, cloistering themselves in a group house basement for rigorous practice sessions—trying to find the balance between composition and spontaneity, to figure out how to ride knotty prog-riffs into deep trasnplendent bliss-outs.
The band just released a new 7" with two tracks, 'Inverse Fireworks' and 'One Drug'. A follow up to last year's enigmatic EP, Penumbra, the 7" finds the band refining its sprawling sound with economy and focus."

SECONDARY MODERN will also be playing! I've lived in Carbondale for about three months now but I've managed to miss them every single time they've played so I'm really excited to finally be hearing them! They've been in the recording studio recently and we'll be sure to keep you informed as to when they make their release!

"The chemistry between Mark (drums) and Sean (vox/guitar) puts most two-pieces to shame. The perfectly toned reverb is well set to a meticulous wave of drums and cymbal taps, creating a constant building and relieving of tension."
